Antique Spanish-Philippine Ivory Christ. 18th Century

Rare antique Spanish-Philippine ivory Christ, original from the 18th century and in very good condition. This is a fantastic piece, hand-carved with the maximum precision and more than 200 years old. The Christ comes with its CITES certificate. The wooden cross and stand were added later, more or less in the mid-20th century. The two pieces are beautifully made, with a fine ebony-like finish and a lovely decoration of hand-painted white volutes at the foot. The polychrome finish which depicts Christs blood was also painted later, probably at the same time as the cross and the stand. The figure is stylized, with harmonious proportions and a serene and expressive face. The ivory has been carefully worked; we can appreciate the beautifully carved hair and the folds of the loincloth. Though being made of such a fragile material, the figure is complete and has survived to our days in excellent condition.
