Superb antique gilt-silver ciborium made in France circa 1900, in excellent condition and with gorgeous hand-engraved and embossed decoration. The ciborium is entirely made of silver, from the foot to the lid. The gilt finish is amazingly preserved and provides the ciborium with a gorgeous attractive. All the parts bear hallmarks which testify for the quality and the origin of the silver they are made of. The foot is circular in shape and is adorned with three engraved medallions containing portraits of the members of the Sacred Family. Between the medallions we can see the classic Eucharistic symbols: bunches of grapes, wheat stalks and reeds (a representation of the People of God). The stem has a tapered node decorated with small punctured motifs. Over this part, the sub-cup shows a fine openwork decoration and engraved leaves, wheat stalks, reeds, bunches of grapes and cherubs heads. The sun-cup contains a lean silver cup, trimmed by a lid with the same decoration and a beautiful cross which acts as a handle. This wonderful antique gilt-silver ciborium will stand out during the celebration of the Eucharist or as part of a great collection of religious art. Dimensions: Foots Width: 4.9 in / 12 cm.
