Antique gilt silver chalice with silver paten, made in France circa 1900 and in fine condition. The chalice is almost one century old and stands out for its discreet elegance, being a timeless piece and boasting an undeniable beauty. The gilt finish looks uniform, lean and shiny, being also wonderfully preserved. The chalice has a gorgeous handmade decoration composed of embossed and engraved neo-gothic motifs. The foot is ample and lobed in shape; it is adorned with schematic symmetrical motifs depicting, probably, wheat stalks (symbol of the Eucharistic Bread). The stalks are crossed by a circular punctured band which separates the beginning of the stem and the foot. This part is decorated with the classic long leaves which act as a fluid connection between both parts. The main and secondary nodes are circular in shape and bear a fine neo-gothic decoration. The sub-cup shows the same motifs as the foot, creating a balanced and coherent effect. All the chalices parts bear hallmarks that certify its quality and ancient age; they are clearly marked on the metal surface. The chalice comes with a gorgeous gilt silver paten which combines this finish with a circular non-gilt silver band. The paten bears the French silver hallmark and the silversmiths mark, and is decorated with a hand-engraved vegetal motif and the acronym of Jesus Christ (JHS). The paten is in good condition and together with the chalice makes up a fine set. This fine antique gilt silver chalice with silver paten is an amazing piece of religious silverwork, full of charm and nearly one century old. Dimensions: Chalice: Foots Width: 5.91 in / 15 cm.
