Antique gilt silver chalice with paten made in France circa 1900, with hand-engraved decoration and in fine condition. The chalice bears hallmarks in all its parts: the mark of antique French silver and the silversmiths mark too, both perfectly visible. The foot is circular in shape and is adorned with engraved and embossed images of wheat stalks and bunches of grapes in the vine, symbols of the Bread and the Wine of the Eucharist. We can also see a group of reeds, a Bible, a Latin cross and a triangle in the sky, the classic symbol of God. The stem that elevates over the foot is composed of three nodes, a main and bigger one and two secondary elements. They are all profusely decorated with abstract engraved motifs. The cup bears no decoration and shows off a stylized shape, preserving the inner gilt finish in excellent condition. Together with the chalice, this set includes a beautiful gilt silver paten with the French silver hallmarks and the silversmiths mark close to the edge. At the center, the paten is adorned with a hand-engraved Greek cross with schematic floral motifs between the arms, a simple though elegant and timeless decoration. Almost one hundred years old and of a remarkable elegance, this antique gilt silver chalice with paten will shine in any collection of religious silverware.
