The chalice bears hallmarks in all its parts, some corresponding to antique French silverware and some by the maker. These marks testify for the pieces quality and origin, a real work of religious art almost one century old. The gilt finish looks warm, shiny and even and provides the chalice with a remarkable attractive. The circular base is adorned with four images, carefully engraved by hand and with a great attention to detail. These motifs are usually present in these pieces: the cross in the Calvary, the bunches of grapes in the vine, the wheat stalks and the reeds. These images symbolize Jesus Christ, the Eucharistic Wine and Bread and the People of God, respectively. The stem is composed of three nodes: a bigger main node and two secondary ones. They are all embellished with simple symmetrical engraved motifs. Over the stem we can see the fine openwork sub-cup, with the same decoration as the foot. The chalice is crowned by a stylized silver cup with no decoration. As for the paten which comes with the chalice, is a really gorgeous piece with a fine gilt finish in excellent condition. At the center, the paten bears a beautiful hand-engraved crimson with the Greek Alpha and Omega letters which symbolize Jesus Christ as the Beginning and the End of all things. The crimson is framed by a circular band with schematic and abstract motifs, which provides elegance and harmony to the decoration. Close to the edge, this piece bears the French silver hallmark and the silversmith mark. This antique gilt silver chalice and paten set is an exclusive and gorgeous item with a powerful character.
