Outstanding spectacular chalice, 100% silver, Napoleonic Empire style. Chalice made in Lyon, France between 1818 and 1838. This is an overwhelmingly beautiful chalice which remains in fine condition. The circular foot is profusely decorated with handmade engraved and embossed motifs, organized in delimited sections. The images depict the classic radiant Cross at the Calvary, the Lamb of God and the Sacred Heart over the Bible. Between them we can see the symbols of the Eucharist (the wheat stalks and the grapevines) and of the People of God (the reeds). The stem shows a classic-inspired design, quite popular at the time. The node is long and shaped like a vase, being adorned with engraved symmetrical details and a band composed of grapevines and bunches of grapes. It includes two disc-shaped secondary nodes, one below the main one and the other over it. Crowning the chalice, the silver cup is supported by a gorgeous sub-cup with a fine embossed latticework. This piece is composed of schematic flowers and the symbols stated before. Both the foot and the cup bear the French silver hallmark and the silversmiths mark, which guarantee the ancient age and the quality of the item. The chalice comes with an antique silver paten, made some time later. The paten bears hallmarks too and shows a subtle and elegant gilt finish in good condition. At the center we can see a hand-engraved motif with the acronym of Jesus Christ (IHS) and a radiant Cross. Together with the paten, the chalice makes up a valuable set with an elegant and personal look. This antique 100% silver Napoleonic-Empire-style chalice will surely stand out during the celebration of Eucharist, being also a great collectors piece.
