Antique solid-silver chalice and paten set made in France in the 19th century, in very good condition and with an elegant look. The paten is older than the chalice: it bears Paris hallmarks which tells us that it was made in 1830 while the chalice is from the end of the 19th century. The chalice is a stylized and beautiful piece, with an ample circular foot and a stem with a big-sized main node. The foot is decorated with different hand-engraved motifs, including three scenes depicting the Cross on Calvary and the symbols of the Eucharist (wheat stalks and a vine with bunches of grapes). Between the scenes there are engraved circular and symmetrical symbols which provide the design with elegance. The node is adorned with symmetrical leaves and flowers; on top and below we can see smaller nodes and moldings, decorated with discreet engravings. The cup bears no decoration at all, and just like the foot it bears the French silver hallmark. We can also see the silversmiths mark with the initials PRP. The paten, on the other hand, is decorated with the acronym of Christ (IHS), the Cross and the Sacred Heat, delicately engraved by hand. This amazing antique chalice and paten set is an exceptional item, beautiful and timeless, worthy to belong to a priest which can appreciate the charm of antique pieces.
