Great Antique Silver Monstrance. 100% Silver. 27.5 inches. France, 19th Century

Great antique silver monstrance, 100% silver and 27.5 inches high. This amazing piece was made in France in the 19th century and stands out for its big size and its exceptional quality. The monstrance bears hallmarks at the foot and in some of the sunrays which testify for the silvers origin and quality. Some of the sunrays show subtle reparations which in no way interfere with the beauty of the design. The piece is complete and includes the lunette, with the ancient glass in perfect condition. The rectangular foot stands on four embossed curved legs, with the front side adorned with a gilt-silver appliqué depicting the Lamb of God. At the rear side we can see the embossed and engraved symbol of God, a radiant triangle on a cloudy sky. The stem has a classic node with two cherubs heads spreading their wings upwards and framing an image of the Sacred Head at the front, and the Tables of the Law at the back. Over the node we see the magnificent Sun standing on a group of wheat stalks and with the lunette framed by clouds and cherubs heads. The monstrance is crowned by an embossed Latin cross.
