Beautiful antique enameled gilt-silver chalice and silver paten set, coming from France and made in the 19th century. These pieces make up a charming and great-looking set in good condition. Some of the chalices enamels show signs of restoration, but overall they look uniform and fine. The paten, on the other hand, needs to renew the gilding but is otherwise in good condition. Both pieces bear hallmarks we can see them at the chalices foot and cup, while the one at the paten is currently illegible. The chalice has lobed foot, divided in six sections adorned with enameled almond-shaped medallions. The enamels depict wheat stalks, a vine with bunches of grapes and a cross at the front side. The medals display a wonderful chromatic array, with bright and powerful colors: red, blue, green, yellow, gold and white. The node and the cup are also decorated with hand-painted enamels, with floral motifs and images relative to the Eucharistic Bread and Wine. Last but not least, the paten bears a hand-engraved acronym of Christ (HIS) crowned by a Cross. This antique enameled gilt-silver chalice and silver paten set will shine in any collection of sacred silverwork for its great decoration and stylish design.
