Antique gilt-silver chalice and paten set, 100% silver, made in France circa 1900 and in good condition. The chalice has an old-time restoration between the foot and the stem, sturdy and slightly visible. Both pieces bear hallmarks which testify for their ancient age, quality and origin: we can see them close to the patens edge, and at the chalices foot and cup. This item stands on a circular foot, profusely decorated with hand-engraved and embossed images. We can see a Cross at the front side, the wheat stalks and the bunches of grapes in the vine. Between them there are portraits of the members of the Sacred Family: Jesus, Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph. The stem has a big main node with embossed wheat stalks, bunches of grapes and reeds, symbols of the Eucharist and the People of God. It is located between two secondary nodes, also engraved by hand. The cup is supported by a gorgeous openwork subcup with embossed images of the three Theological Virtues: Faith, Hope and Charity. They are separated by the wheat stalks, bunches of grapes and reeds which we could see at the foot and the node. The paten which comes with the chalice is adorned with the acronym of Christ (IHS) and the Sacred Heart framed by a crown of thorns, all engraved by hand. This wonderful antique gilt-silver chalice and paten set, 100% silver, is a great piece of religious silverwork decorated with beautiful motifs and more than one hundred years old.
