Extraordinary Antique Carved Corozo Nut Case with its Silver Rosary. France, 19th Century

Extraordinary case carved on a corozo nut and silver rosary, made in France in the 19th century and perfectly preserved. This delicate piece stands out for the amazing carving work performed by the artist the images and motifs show a masterful performance, with high detail and perfectly adapted to the shape of the object. The case is composed of two sections. At one of them we can see a scene depicting the Birth of Jesus with Child Jesus in the center, Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph on both sides and three standing figures, probably the Three Wise Men. On top of them, the symbol of God (a radiant triangle on a cloudy sky) reigns over the scene. The other section is decorated with engraved images of items used in the Eucharistic liturgy: two candles, a vase, a cross, two cruets, a monstrance, a chalice, a patriarchal cross and a stole. On the other side we can see more motifs, in this case related to the Catholic religion: a mast with a flag, a miter, a ciborium and a censer. At the center there is an oval medallion containing a basket with fruits. This section shows an ancient reparation, well made and scarcely visible. The two sections of the case, which closes perfectly, are connected by tiny silver hinges. Inside it hides a silver rosary, a beautiful and equally antique piece.
