Fine antique gilt silver chalice made in France circa 1880 and accompanied by a silver paten. Both pieces are finely preserved and bear hallmarks, the one for antique French silver pieces and the mark of the Demarquet Brothers. Arthur and Louis Demarquet were two renowned goldsmiths and silversmiths who had a workshop at 44, Rue des Gravilliers, Paris. They were active between 1868 and 1890. The chalice bears hallmarks in the foot and the cup. The foot is a delicate circular piece, with a guilloche decoration and small circles regularly disposed. At the front it has a silver appliqué shaped as a cross. The same decoration covers the stem and the two nodes (main and secondary), and the subcup too. The paten is adorned with a central circle with a cross inside; we can see its hallmarks near the edge. This fine antique gilt silver chalice and its paten make up an elegant set of sacred silverwork, made by two prestigious goldsmiths. Dimensions: Chalice: Foots Width: 4.61 in / 11.7 cm.
