Spectacular silver and gilt metal chalice made in France circa 1880, in very good condition and with original paten and storing case. Both the paten and the chalice have hallmarks, the mark of ancient French silver pieces and the silversmiths mark (the same for both pieces). The chalice shows a fine neo-gothic design, with an ample foot shaped as an eight-pointed star. It is divided in eight sections; four of them are bigger than the others and are decorated with putti. At the front there is an enameled-metal cross painted blue and red. The stem has two nodes, main and secondary, divided in sections and with medieval-inspired ornaments. The subcup is profusely engraved with symmetrical vegetal motifs and an inscription at the edge, in capital letters: PANIS VIVUS. AGNUS DEI (Live Bread Lamb of God). The gilt-silver paten bears no decoration at all; together with the chalice it makes up a valuable set, both from a material and an artistic point of view.
