Very Antique Gilt Silver Chalice. Early 17th Century. Salamanca, Spain, Circa 1615
Very antique gilt silver chalice from the early 17th century, made in Salamanca, Spain circa 1615 by the silversmith Gonzalo Alonso del Puerto, active from 1604 to 1621. . This is quite a rare piece more than 400 years old, that even so has survived to our days in really good condition. The chalice is decorated with simple hand-engraved punctured motifs, elegant and well defined. The decoration covers the foot and the main node, while the cup bears no decoration at all. The gilt finish is original and in good condition, providing the piece with a warm sumptuous shade. Inside the foot we can see the chalice’s hallmarks which testify for its origin and ancient age. We can see the mark of the city of Salamanca and the one of the goldsmith, Gonzalo Alonso del Puerto. Both marks are perfectly preserved.
