Elegant French chalice, completely made of solid silver in 1900. It is an amazing religious antique, a sacred art object whose best features are the material it is made of and its simple design. The cup, the stem and the base bear the silversmiths hallmarks, the chalice being made more than one hundred years ago. In spite of its ancient age, this beautiful item is in good condition, except a light hit in the cup and in te border of the patene. It is a fully original piece. If the chalices design is simple, so are the engravings that the silver bears in different places. The base, the node and the cup are decorated with vegetal inspired borders: simple and nice patterns depicting fig leaves and flowers. The patterns are schematic, nearly abstract in style, but they are undoubtedly charming and testify for the skill of the artisan who performed them. Another nice detail is the Greek cross which adorns the chalices base, just in the front. It has lobed arms and deep decoration, being a fine feature which provides this piece with a very special touch. On the other side the gilded silver is in very good condition, showing no other engraved patterns or decoration. This chalices austere style turnsit into a highly attractive item, in addition to its ancient age and the quality of the silver it is made of. It is surely an exceptional article, and deserves a place in the showcase of the best collector of sacred art. Measurements: 116 mm width x 195 mm height.
