Wonderful solid silver chalice made in France in the 19th century. This valuable sacred art piece boasts two color silver: some of its parts are delicately gold-plated while others keep the original silver tone. All the chalices parts are made of solid silver, and bear hallmarks that testify for their quality. The chalice is beautifully made and the silver is engraved by hand. It has survived to our days in excellent condition in spite of its ancient age. The original case that protects the piece and comes with it has surely contributed to keep the chalice so greatly preserved. This item has a wide lobed base made of gold-plated silver and profusely decorated with hand-engraved designs. The engravings are vegetal-inspired and baroque in style. The motives repeat alternately and three of the lobes are embellished with a vegetal design composed of three leaves, and the other three are decorated with a circular motive composed of curved arms that come out of a central point. This decoration also appears in the cups base, where the silver is nicely engraved with filigree work and supports the top part of the chalice. The motives are symmetrical, elegant and harmonious, providing the piece with a high appeal without being excessive.This chalice has several hallmarks in all its part that guarantee it is made of real solid silver. As stated before, the chalice comes in its original case. Inside this piece is covered by red velvet and outside has the original iron handle and closing tabs. The case is slightly worn due to the trace of time, but it has fulfilled its protecting duty if we consider the great condition the chalice is in.This striking silver chalice is a surely a unique and beautiful piece, full of history and elegance.
