Great and curious chalice and paten set made of solid silver in the 1930s. This beautiful set comes from France and was made for military use. Both pieces are of simple design and are scarcely decorated, something typical of the sober religious items used in the army. The chalice is a remarkable piece, not only because of its beauty and the precious metal it is made of but also because it can be dismantled in order to store it into the leather case. Both the chalice's cup and the paten bear hallmarks. The chalices design is simple: apart from the lathed stem and node, the only decorative detail it bears is a Greek cross with round frame engraved in the base. The set composed by the two pieces is attractive and sober, matching the military character of the article. As usual, the chalices cup is gold-plated inside with a deep and warm golden tone that makes a fine contrast with the rest of the piece. Once dismantled, the chalice is made up of three parts (base, stem with node and cup with screw connections) and can be easily stored into the original carrying case together with the paten. The case is made of nice brown leather and has survived to our days in good condition. Outside we can see a leather strap designed to shut the case and to be used as a handle. This set original design, the intrinsic value of the chalice and the paten and its great condition turn this article into a very special item, full of interest for any collector of religious antiques or army-related pieces.Measurements: Width: 90 mm. Height: 150 mm.
