This fantastic vintage theodolite, very attractive and with its original case, is a rare piece that was made in Zaragoza (Spain) circa 1910 by the company that founded Amado Laguna de Rins. This precision instrument works perfectly and is in good condition. The original case where the item can be stored is made of solid wood and is also well preserved, and is responsible in great part of the good condition the article is in. The case preserves the original iron hinges, handle and shutting hooks, and is the perfect complement for the striking theodolite.Laguna de Rins S.A. was a company founded by Amado Laguna de Rins in Zaragoza, in 1880. The factory made precision topographic material. In 1915 the company, entirely financed with Aragonese funds, had already seventy five employees. During the Spanish Civil War, Laguna de Rins focused its production to manufacture war material and weapons that they sold to Francos army. In those times more than 600 employees worked in the factory. In 1962 the firm became a public limited company and started making pieces for cars and telephones, in order to supply several Spanish and foreign companies. In 1981 the firm suffered strong economic difficulties that ended with a downsizing plan.The theodolite that we can see in these images is a precision instrument made by the company during its first years of production. We can see its name in the metal plate screwed to the inside face of the cases door, and also in the compasss face, where it is accompanied by the serial number 1161 and the citys name, Zaragoza. The theodolite is in very good condition and its black enamel only shows some signs of wear. Considering the instruments ancient age, this is a logical detail that provides the article with personality.We are looking at an exceptional piece, a theodolite made in Zaragoza that works perfectly and is more than one hundred years old.
