In 1851 Fennel opened his own workshop in Kassel to produce surveying instruments, being the most remarkable ones his magnificent and innovative theodolites. The firm continued under family ownership until 1967. Under this inscription we can read two more words engraved in capital letters: VALLUERCA MADRID. It is the name of the Spanish shop where the theodolite was originally purchased. It was a shop that sold topographic and calculation instruments and also art supplies, located in the Carmen street, Madrid. This particular device is quite attractive and rare. It has the compass at the top, a piece that can be easily removed. Near the top bubble we can see a white inscription with the serial number Nº = 5409.
