This singular device is a mechanical piercing machine made of brass and nickel-plated metal in Germany, in the early 20th century (1900). It is a very special piece because of its rare quality and good condition. The machine is designed to transfer paper patterns on fabric so the user can later cut the pieces. In order to do that, the user must move the machine on the pattern (that will be on top of the fabric) and make it work so the punch can pierce the paper and mark the fabric. The device is composed of two parts: the nickel-plated stand and the brass mechanism. At one side, the stand bears an engraved inscription that reads: 232 EUREKA FRANZ KÜSTNER DRESDEN, the name of the manufacturer and the city where the business was located. The stand is composed of two vertical rods that stand on a circular base. At the top it has two symmetrical plates that support the mechanism. This is composed of brass cogwheels of different sizes, connected between them and to a central punch that makes the piercings. The mechanism is in excellent condition and working order. The machine comes in its original solid wooden case, also very well preserved. It is a beech wood box with walnut finish and lovely dovetail joints at the corners of the box and the lid. The case keeps the original lock and inside we find an instruction leaflet in German for the correct use of the piercing machine. This piercing machines rareness and good condition will make the best collectors fall in love with it. Measurements: Width: 3.5 in/9 cm. Height: 5.5 in/ 14 cm.
