This attractive piece is an antique surveyors level made in London circa 1930 by Stanley, the prestigious brand still active nowadays. The level is complete and fully functional it preserves all its component parts, lenses and screws and can still be used to get accurate measurements. The bubble capsules are the original ones and remain well preserved. The level comes in its original antique case, also in good condition and with the lock and the key in perfect working order. Both in the apparatuss main body and in the label stack to the cases cover, we can see the name of the British manufacturer, STANLEY. The company was founded by William Ford Robinson Stanley, a British inventor who registered up to seventy-eight patents in Great Britain and the USA. Stanley was an engineer and designed a large quantity of precision instruments (for mathematical and drawing use), surveying instruments and telescopes. He commercialized his products in his own company, founded in a shop located in Holborn, London. He was helped by his cousin, Henry Robinson, who joined him with a capital of £150. The level is made of black-enameled cast iron, with brass lenses and screws. The inscription engraved in the instruments main body reads: PATENT STANLEY, GREAT TURNSTILE, HOLBORN, LONDON. We can also see the serial number 26266 and the words BRITISH MADE. On the other hand, the case designed to store the device is made of solid wood and preserves the ancient carrying sleeve, made of strong fabric and with leather straps. The box contains a complete set of accessories for the levels manipulation. This surveyors level is a high-quality instrument, antique and reliable.
