This amazing device is an antique theodolite, in very good condition and in working order. All its component parts and pieces are original from the period and remain in excellent condition. The theodolite comes from Wien, Austria and was manufactured in the 1920s by the firm Rudolf & August Rolf. It comes in its original wooden case, well preserved and with several paper labels and notes. At the top we can see the alidade, the telescope and a bubble level, all of them in amazing condition and working order. The wooden box also contains a screwdriver and a brush to clean and adjust the theodolite. Together with these two accessories we can see several paper labels in good condition with the manufacturers data (RUDOLF & AUGUST ROLF) and the instructions for use. One of the labels shows the handwritten serial number 58209.The case retains its original key and lock in good conditions. Since he was a kid he studied sciences, mathematics and mechanics, and together with his brother August in 1880 he founded the firm Rudolf & August Rolf to manufacture surveying and measuring instruments: theodolites, levels, topography devices, etc. In a few years the firm became quite renowned for the quality of their products. In the Paris World Fair of 1900 they were awarded with different prizes and a gold medal. In the following years the focused on photogrammetry instruments and became pioneers in the field. The company is still active and since 2007 it is a subsidiary branch of Hexagon AB.
