This is a rare model of theodolite, an antique English instrument made in the year 1990 by T. Cooke & Sons brand, from York. Theodolites are instruments used by topographers and cartographers to locate objects in specific distances. This beautiful piece is specially interesting, as it comes in its square wooden box, varnished and with its original iron fittings. Its rare design is another great feature. Even though its condition is good, one of the metal mountings for magnifying glass to read scale is bent. Image focus is sharp, though the optics lenses may need some slightly cleaning internally. Into the box, well fitted in its particular departments, there is also an eye-piece extension and the screw on brass mounting, which serves to attach instrument to tripod. The theodolite keeps all its accessories and gears in good condition, and it can be used with no problem. It also has the two bubble capsules on the base which are used to check the level of the device and the eyepiece. In some places we can see inscriptions with the name of the brand: T. Cooke & Sons York England. On the other hand, the wooden box shows the inscription 5 IN THEOD E25 N.P.T. O S in golden letters. Though the original varnish is slightly worn (no doubt due to the use of the device), it is easy to restore by a professional. The box shows handcrafted dovetail joints, and the original lock and hooks. This theodolite will contribute with its majestic beauty to the best collection of surveyors antiques. Theodolite measurements: 155 mm base x 240 mm high x 215 mm width.
