This beautiful surveying instrument is a theodolite, made in North America in the 1940s. It comes with all its pieces and accessories, with a wooden tripod and the original case. Its elegant aesthetic goes together with its great condition. The black lacquered metal shows a regular and uniform surface, with only slight signs of wear (product of the use of the instrument), which enhance the charm and the authenticity of the piece. The gears, screws and scales, made of brass, work perfectly and show a polished and shiny surface. In the edge of the rotating plate on which the instrument seats we can see an inscription in relief, which show the name of the brand and the country: W & L. E. GURLEY, TROY, N. Y. U.S.A. Into the compass, on the same plate, we read the same inscription, this time in white lettering. There is also a very interesting detail: a label with the name SEBASTIAN HAINZINGER. Gurley is a prestigious New Yorker brand which makes precision instruments and surveying devices, and which nowadays is a real benchmark. The item comes with a wooden tripod and can be stored into its original wooden case. The paint which cover the case is somewhat worn due to the use and the years, but on the front we can still see the number 48933 and three rectangles painted yellow. Inside the case there is a brass plumb bob with its string. The box has its original hinges, one of the closing hooks and two leather handles. The tripod itself is also in very good condition. All these details turn this theodolite into an exclusive piece, perfect to decorate an elegant study or living room or to become part of a complete collection of antiques. Theodolite measurements: 360 mm height x 290 mm width. With the tripod: 1.790 mm height.
