This curious and fine piece is an antique level on a tilting base, with two viewers and in its original wooden box. The level comes from France and was made in the 19th century. It is in really good condition. This is quite a peculiar instrument as it mounts two scaled viewers and a central support with a screw that makes it possible to adjust the inclination. It was used for field topography tasks. The instrument is composed of a long brass piece with the stated viewers (one at each end) and the bubble glass capsule on top of it. The capsule is encased into a brass cylinder. The central support is a brass cylindrical piece with a black connector on top. This piece can be connected to the center of the level. The solid wooden box where the level can be stored is made of walnut wood and bears fine dovetail joints at the corners, as attractive as solid. The box preserves the original iron handle and brass hinges. At the front side we can see a paper sticker with the word Niveau (French for level) printed in a rare and beautiful lettering. For its rareness and good look, this antique level on tilting base is a museum piece with a considerable attractiveness. Measurements: Width: 13 in / 33 cm.
