Antique golden-brass pantometer in good condition, made in Europe in the late 19th century. This surveying instrument is still in working order and makes it possible to determine angles and distances in situ. The pantometer is composed of two parts: a main octagonal-section body with several grooves and two viewers, and a brass cylinder that fits into a screwed hole located at the top of the body. Both parts are well preserved thought the brass surface shows some signs of the trace of time and use. Nevertheless, these are just superficial details that do not interfere at all with the instruments condition, and even provide it with a lovely and an inimitable antique patina. The pantometer is thought to have been invented in 1631 by Athanasius Kircher who talked about it in his work Ars Magnesia. This antique brass pantometer is a real collectors item that will shine in a good collection of surveying instruments.Measurements: Width: 2.3 in /6 cm. Height: 5.1 in / 13 cm.
