This amazing topographic surveying instrument is a brass theodolite dating back to the late 19th century (circa 1890). It was made in France and remains in wonderful condition. The theodolite comes in its original antique case and works perfectly it has survived to our days in the great condition we can appreciate in the photographs. The instrument bears the manufacturers name and address engraved in the brass base: ISELI A PARIS 1 RUE TARANNE. All its component parts and pieces are original from the period and work fine, making it possible to use the theodolite to measure and calculate distances in situ. This singular device mounts a base composed of three black pieces trimmed by adjustable legs. This base makes it possible to level the theodolite on any surface in order to get exact results. Over this element there is a vertically-disposed brass cylinder that supports the circular base on this the bubble level and the telescope rest. The cover bears a sticker with the manufacturers name and address and a list of the items produced and sold by the company.
