This rare sword is a collectors piece made in France circa 1870, some years before the French Revolution started, before the Nopoleonic period. It is a French Mounted Officer sword that stands out because of its curious design and good condition. The sword is made of steel and polished brass and has foldable guard, a feature that turns it into a very singular piece. It also preserves the original scabbard made of leather and brass. The leather is slightly worn in some parts but nevertheless the scabbard preserves its great classic beauty. In spite of being so ancient, the sword has survived to our days in excellent condition. The hilt is made of polished brass and the blade is made of steel: both parts are quite well preserved. The hilt is undoubtedly the most remarkable part of this sword, mainly because of its foldable guard. Otherwise the rest of the hilt boasts a sober and nice design that matches the scabbard. The steel blade is also in very good condition. The scabbard is made of leather and has brass pipe and head.We are looking at a historic sword that lived the turbulent times of the French Revolution. Its ingenious design and stylized look turn it into an essential piece for any collection of antique weapons.Measurements: Sword: 87 cm/34.2 in. Scabbard: 74 cm/29 in.
