Amazing Spanish plug hunting bayonet in real good condition, made in Toledo in the 19th century. This weapon is a beautiful piece indeed, as it is decorated with great engraved motives and boasts an original and balanced design. It is surely a lethal item and at the same time, a state-of-art piece. The bayonet shows a dark wooden grip and first-quality steel blade, protected by a real leather scabbard in excellent condition. The scabbard mounts metal chappe and locket, also engraved by hand matching the bayonets blade and hilt. These weapons were designed to be mounted in muzzle-loading one-shot firearms. After the big game was shot down, the hunter would use the bayonet to finish it. This particular weapon is quite remarkable for its excellent condition and well-preserved component parts. The wooden hilt looks polished and shiny, with its dark brown color. The cross-guard boasts an elegant S shape, with a slight asymmetrical design that provides the weapon with even more beauty. The metal is profusely engraved with intricate vegetal motives that create a complex decoration. This decoration can also be seen across the full steel blade, except for the flat edge. The rain guard bears an engraved inscription indicating the place where this bayonet was made: we can see clearly the words FABRICA DE TOLEDO (Factory of Toledo) in capital letters with a background of decorative vegetal engravings. The leather scabbard boasts a flat and regular surface with a nice reddish brown color. As stated before, its chappe and locket are made of hand-engraved metal matching the weapons hilt and blade. Very antique and impeccably designed, this Spanish hunting bayonet is a collectors piece bound to take a place in a good exhibition of classic weapons. Measurements: Bayonet: 16.9 in/43 cm.
