This extremely beautiful saber is a light cavalry arm model 1815, made in Toledo (Spain) in 1833. It is a piece with high interest for any collector because of its fine design, its quality and its great condition. The saber comes with the original steel scabbard, very well preserved, and has brass hilt with wonderful wavy quillons. The arms blade bears an engraved inscription with the place and year of manufacturing: Real Fábrica de Toledo Año de 1833 (Royal Factory of Toledo Year of 1833). The inscription is clearly visible and is greatly preserved. The sabers hilt and scabbard also bear a mark with the name YBARZABAL. This name corresponds to a famous sword manufacturer that worked in the Basque Country (Spain) and who was hired by the Factory of Toledo from 1815 to 1839 to forge hilts and scabbards for their swords. The reason for this was that in the early 19th century the government established that the swords and sabers hilts should be made of brass, so for several decades these pieces were made outside the factory and so were the scabbards. The arms that were made then stand out for their quality and interest. As stated before, this particular sabers hilt has a guard composed of four wavy quillons that start at the pommel and open like a fan, creating a lovely piece with a surprisingly modern design. The brass it is made of looks shiny and polished, very well preserved. The leather-covered wooden grip keeps the original wire. The steel scabbard is also in very good condition and we can see the Ybarzábal mark engraved in the locket. This sabers quality, ancient age and elegant look are reason enough to consider it a singularly attractive piece that every good collector will appreciate. Measurements: Saber: 34.6 in/104 cm. Scabbard: 40.9 in/88 cm.
