Fine and elegant custom-made saber for mounted corps with the owners signature engraved in the blade and the original steel scabbard. This weapon is the model 1895 and was made in the Factory of Toledo (Spain) in 1898. The saber is really beautiful with a simple and balanced design, and has survived to our days in very good condition. The blade and the hilt are flat, with wavy and nice shapes, and the grip shows an irregular shape that makes it easier to hold. The blades ricasso (the part close to the hilt) is engraved on both sides, with lovely hand-made inscriptions and motives. In one side, the blade is engraved with the name of the place where the saber was forged: ARTILLERÍA FÁBRICA DE TOLEDO (Artillery Factory of Toledo), and also with the year of manufacturing: 1898. The motive that we can see in the other side depicts the coats of arm of Castile and Leon with the royal crown on top. Both engravings are well preserved, with deep reliefs nicely engraved by hand. The signature, on the other hand, is also clearly visible. The steel the blade is made of is in good condition, with almost no signs of worn. Under the cross-guard we can also see the number 2 marked in the metal. This sabers grip is composed of two pieces made of squared wood and screwed to a flat dowel, instead of an only wooden piece covered by leather and secured by a wire, as established by the traditional design. This configuration makes up a solid and functional grip, perfect for a saber designed to be used when riding on a horse, and that was used later in other swords and sabers for mounted corps. Its simple and elegant design turns this antique saber into a very attractive piece, perfect to become part of a great collection of swords. Measurements: Blade: 31.4 in/80 cm. Saber (with hilt): 38.1 in/97 cm.
