This ancient sword is a cavalry sword made in Italy in the late 19th century. The sword is in good condition though the metal is partially covered by a slight rust patina created by the trace of time. This detail provides the piece with a very special charm and turns it into a highly decorative item. Furthermore the sword keeps all its original parts and boasts a fine and elegant design, being a very interesting article for any collector or lover of antique weapons. The hilt of this sword is quite beautiful, with a simple and stylish design. The guard shows a nice curved shape, with the cross and the quillons in an only piece. The grip is still covered by the original leather piece, reinforced and embellished by the copper wire designed to hold it in its place. The top of the hilt still preserves part of this wire. The magnificent condition of the leather is really remarkable in spite of the trace of time and use it is flat and shiny, and keeps its nice dark brown color in good shape. The stylized steel blade boasts a soft curve. Though covered by rust in some parts, it still shows of a great distinction and sturdiness. The ricasso (the part of the blade that connects with the hilt) bears the makers mark clearly engraved in the metal. In the mark we can see the initials RF inside a square.
