Antique and beautiful sword made in Great Britain in the late 18th or early 19th century. This is a British M.1 796 light cavalry officer sword in excellent condition. It preserves its original brass scabbard; it shows two small dents, but even so the sword can be easily put in and out of it. The sword is a remarkable piece because of its ancient age, but also for its stunning beauty: the steel blade is blued and decorated with engraved and gold-plated. It retains a 70%, more or less. The sword is well preserved though the blade shows some signs of the normal trace of time. The gold-plated details that decorate the blued blade depict vegetal-style motives, quite stylized and engraved by hand. Just by the hilt we can see two hand-engraved inscriptions in an elegant lettering, one on each side of the blade. The inner piece of the grip is made of a noble material of bone colour and is grooved in order to enhance its use. Both materials are greatly preserved. Measurements: Sword: 35.4 in / 90 cm. Scabbard: 31.4 in / 80 cm.
