Striking antique Spanish Army infantry officers sword, made in Toledo, Spain in 1910. This sober weapon was forged in the famous Edged Weapons Factory of Toledo and is in very good condition, coming with its original scabbard too. The sword boasts a simple and elegant design, with the grip protected by a fine curved cross-guard. Near the hilt, the blade bears the coat of arms of the Factory of Toledo clearly engraved in the metal. In the other side it shows the serial number 2008. The Edged Weapons Factory of Toledo was created by the Spanish King Carlos III who decided to found it in the city to impulse the traditional sword craftsmanship that was then declining. In order to accomplish it, in 1761 the factory was established in the Casa de la Moneda (Toledo Mint) though shortly after it was moved to the banks of the river Tagus to take advantage of the force of water. The new building was designed by Francesco Sabatini and the factory opened its doors in 1780. After many vicissitudes, among them two invasions by the French troops during the Spanish War of Independence, from 1830 the production grew and the factory achieved worldwide prestige. Currently the building houses the University Campus of Toledo. This swords beauty is clearly reflected in its hilt, nicely designed and well preserved. The cross-guard turns into a curved quillon that ends in the pommel. The grip preserves the original leather covering and wire, also in good condition. The mark with the coat of arms of the Edged Weapons Factory is well preserved and clearly visible; the words can be easily red. The serial number engraved in the other side is in good condition too. The blade looks shiny and even and the scabbard is great too, preserving the original ring in its place. As simple as historic, this Spanish sword is a collectors item full of character. Measurements: Sword: Length: 35.4 in / 90 cm. Scabbard: Length: 31.4 in / 80cm.
