This lovely Bavarian court official's dress sword dates from the mid 19th Century. It has lovely straight blade with a length of 34 ¼ inches that shows a beautiful original etching, still clearly visible and shiny. The elegant gold and bright blue background embellishes both sides of the blade. The hilt is greatly decorated with a lion-head shaped pommel, and the guard is also enhanced with a design of lions. The grip is made of mother-of-pearl and on one side it has a crowned escutcheon with a"M". The leather scabbard has nice brass fittings: the leather is smooth and the stitching is in good condition. The words BORMANN MUNCHEN are engraved in the base of the scabbard. The portapee is also remarkable: all its parts are in quite good condition and it shows an "M" on each side, embroidered with golden thread. Given its age, the general condition of the sword is good. Apart from slight signs of wear, which are normal after so many years, the overall look of the sword is great and it has a distinguished bearing. The beauty of the carvings in the hilt, the details of the scabbard, the smart portapee and the lovely golden and blue finish of the blade, make of this sword a magnificent piece, very elegant and decorative.
