Awesome antique sword forged in Spain in the 18th Century. The sword is made of steel and bears a fine hilt with cup-shaped cross-guard, being quite an elegant and beautiful weapon. It is in very good. The blade is remarkably beautiful as it is completely engraved by hand with fine decorative motives and inscriptions. The hilt is also a fine piece for its sober and original design. The blade bears an inscription in old-fashioned Castilian, engraved in the steel in capital letters. The motto reads: NO ME SAQUES SIN RASON NO ME EMBAINES SIN HONOR (Dont unsheathe me without reason Dont sheath me without honor). This motto was one of the most common ones used by the Spanish masters that worked in the famous Sword Factory of Toledo founded by King Carlos III in 1761. The motto is surrounded by delicate embossed hand-engraved motives that make it stand out. The place where the blade connects the hilt is embellished by a fine metal piece with lobed edges. On the other hand, the hilt is composed of a cup-shaped hilt and a straight cross-guard with a curved quillon. The cross and the quillon are finely made with a spiral decoration. The pommel that trims the grips end, is a curious octagonal-in-section piece that provides the sword with quite an original touch. As antique as fascinating, this striking sword from will stand out in the most complete collection of antique weapons. Measurements: Sword: 45.6 in / 116 cm. Blade: 37.7 in / 96 cm.
