Striking antique superior officers blue-and-gold sword, made in France circa 1830 and in excellent condition. This fine sword dates from the time when Louis Philippe I, also known as the citizen king, reigned over France. The sword stands out for its imposing decorative richness as it mixes materials like brass, blued metal and mother-of-pearl. The steel blade bears a gorgeous blued finish with a fine decoration of gold-plated engravings. The blue-and-gold finish is greatly preserved. The brass hilt has a D-guard that connects the grip through a dogs head-shaped pommel. The grip is decorated with mother-of-pearl side reinforcements. The D-guard bears a series of decorative engravings with a central medal depicting a mans face. At the guard we can see a lovely embossed motive depicting an allegory of victory. The upper quillon is slightly bent, but it still remains in its place. The scabbard that comes with the sword is made of leather and has a brass locket with fine engraved motifs. This antique French superior officers sword shows off a great aesthetic beauty, matched only by its quality and ancient age. Measurements: Total Length: 36.4 in / 91 cm.
