Antique and rare Swiss faschinenmesser pioneer sidearm model 1843, in excellent condition and dated in 1890. This weapon once belonged to a military sapper; this corps is composed of soldiers who dig trenches and pioneer complicated wooded areas. The sidearm comes from Switzerland and bears a mark engraved in the blade depicting the cross of the Swiss flag, just over the name of the city where it was made, SOLINGEN (probably the city where it was forged). On the other side of the blade we can see the engraved serial number 19636 and the date where the sidearm was forged, 1890. The inscriptions are well preserved and remain perfectly legible. The blade has a serrated spine, a curious and interesting detail, and is in excellent condition. The hilt is made of brass and shows off a simple design, with tapered shape and straight cross-guard trimmed by two motifs composed of concentric circles. The scabbard is made of black leather and has brass locket and chappe; the locket has a protrusion connected to the remains of the original leather strap. Rare and fascinating, this antique Swiss faschinenmesser pioneer sidearm preserves its great aesthetic and power of aesthetic. Measurements: Blade Length: 20.2 in / 50.5 cm. Total Length: 26.6 in / 66.5 cm.
