Rare antique saber for infantry or national militia officer, forged in Spain circa 1815. The saber preserves all its parts except for the wooden grip, which was changed in some moment at the past. The function of this weapon is not clear and could have been used by different military corps. According to the book Spanish Military and Civil Swords between the XVI and XX Centuries, the exact classification of the sword depicted in this page is a real challenge. Its size and structure make us think of cavalry, but an eventual use by an infantry or a national militia officer cannot be excluded as anything is possible with this type of sabers. In those years (the first decades of the 20th centuries), Spanish swords were not perfectly regulated yet. The hilt is made of brass a boasts a simple and original design, decorated with a delicate hand-engraved flower. This antique Spanish saber for infantry or national militia officer is a very special piece which any collector would love to own. Dimensions: Blade Length: 29.53 in / 75 cm.
