Antique French sword for infantry officer model 1881, dated in March, 1909 and coming from France. The sword is in excellent condition and comes with its original steel scabbard. The steel blade is finely preserved and shows no relevant signs of wear. At the point where the blade meets the hilt we find a hand-engraved inscription with the factorys name (Manufacture Nationale d'armes de Châtellerault), date (Mars 1909) and model (1882). The inscription is very well preserved and remains perfectly legible. On the other hand, the sword mounts a gorgeous brass hilt decorated with floral openwork and engraved motifs. The grip is made of dark solid wood; it bears hand-carved grooves and preserves the original twisted wire. The contrast between the dark wood and the shiny metal makes up an attractive and timeless design.
