Rare model with scabbard and proportions identical to the model 1803 saber, but with golden hilt in Frenchified style, so we think it is a custom model made for a British officer of flank infantry, made circa 1800 in the Napoleonic and in fine condition. In those days French-style swords and sabers were in fashion: this saber is a good example of the trend. It is an original and authentic weapon whose beauty provides it with a high decorative power. The blade is finely preserved and looks shiny, with one or two very small dents at the edge which tell us about its past in combat. The hilt is made of gold-plated metal and has a fine wavy design: the D-guard and the cross-guard make up an only piece divided in branches. The pommel is shaped as a lions head and trims a bone grip with carved grooves which improve the use. The scabbard which comes with the saber is made of dark brown leather and mounts gold-plated metal locket, chape and central reinforcement. At the hilt and the scabbard, the gold-plated finish is quite worn by the trace of time and the use. Far from being a flaw, this detail provides the saber with a great antique patina. The scabbard is decorated with incised decoration on the front. Stylish and powerful, this antique saber for infantry officer from the Napoleonic era is a wonderful piece more than 200 years old. Dimensions: Blade Length: 28.74 in / 73 cm. Total Length: 34.64 in / 88 cm.
