Pair of Spanish daggers made in the 19th century. This set is surely a beautiful antique, which has survived to our days in very good condition. The knives have steel blade and cross, while their grips are nicely made of polished brass and bone. The two knives are similar except for the cross, which in one of them is decorated with some marks while the other has a completely plain cross. Both knives have a gap in the middle of the blade, shaped like a rectangle with both ends in the shape of a circle. The knives grips are beautiful and simple, decorated with many delicate details. The wooden core is covered by brass and bone straps, and we can see the wood through some rectangular gaps in the metal. The polished surface is decorated with slight engravings in the shape of wavy zigzag fringes. Between the bone straps we can see pieces of brass cut in geometrical shapes. The combination of both materials creates a very nice and special design, typical of the time when the knives were made. The good condition that the knives show is also highly remarkable. The bone straps are complete, with no missing or broken parts, and the brass looks shiny and regular. This kind of knives was very popular in the 19th century among Spanish men, who used to carry a small knife everywhere for multiple uses. In fact, they are the antecessors of todays penknives. These Spanish knives are surely an exceptional set, a pair of antique weapons full of history and of artisanal making. They are a real find for any lover of antique swords and will undoubtedly stand out in the most elegant showcase. Measurements: 325 mm length.
