This stylized and harmonious Spanish cavalry sword is an important piece because of its ancient age and good condition. Very beautiful, it was forged in the late 18th century (circa 1790) and its hilt boasts a highly elegant design. The sword is model 1796 for cavalry troop and the cross-guard bears two marks that testify for its quality and origin. One of the most relevant features of this sword is its good condition, with its perfectly preserved wire and keeping all its original parts. The ship-shaped cross-guard is especially beautiful and so are the rest of the hilts part, with round pointed pommel, curved guard and slim asymmetrical quillons. There are two hallmarks in the cross-guard, to the left and to the right of the ferrule. They depict two letters engraved in the metal: on one hand we can see a B with a symbol over and on the other, an R with a crown on top. This last hallmark usually means that the sword was property of the crown, while the other could be the smiths mark. The curved guard is decorated with two pairs of parallels lines in the center: between them rests a rectangular engraved mark. As stated before, the copper wire protecting the grip is perfectly preserved, something that is not usual in such ancient weapons and that provides this sword with a special interest. The cross-guard is highly elegant and one of its ends reaches the center of the guard. This feature not only embellishes the sword but also was an extra protection for its user. On the other hand, the blade is long and stylized, double-edged and with no decoration at all. The whole piece is well preserved in spite of being more than two hundred years old. This striking Spanish sword is a historic item that will stand out in the most complete and interesting collection of weapons, being also a highly decorative piece.Measurements: Total length: 1030 mm.
