This amazing bladed weapon is a Spanish machete-bayonet for artilleryman and engineering soldier, is the model 1858, althuogh this particular piece was forged in 1864. It is one of the rarest machetes in the world, a first class and fully genuine article. Made in Toledo, it is well preserved. The brass hilt is clean and looks regular, while the iron cross-guard shows traces of rust. On the other hand, the fine steel blade is neat and flat, with only slights signs of the trace of time that enhance the antique charm of the piece.At the rain-guard we can see the year of manufacturing (AÑO DE 1864) engraved on one side. On the other side there is an inscription in the same capital lettering indicating the place where the machete-bayonet was made: FABRICA DE TOLEDO (made in Toledo). The hilt is composed of a brass grip decorated in a classic way, with flat edges and cord-shaped engravings on both sides. The pommel is also embellished with an embossed motive that can be seen at both sides and depicts a small bomb. The iron cross-guard has an outside quillon ended by a ball. The inside quillon is actually a metal cylinder designed to connect the machete to the fusil in order to take part in close combat.At the grip, just over the cross-guard we can see an engraved cipher that would indicate the weapons number in relation with the number of similar models that were forged in those times. This number is 1284. This machete-bayonets design draws powerfully our attention thanks to the shape of the blade, with a delicately inclined and two-edged end. This feature increases the weapons attacking capacity.
