This imposing typewriter is a Continental Standard, a very popular model that was commercialized during the 1920-30s. The machine boasts a solid black-enameled iron frame and has a frontstrike printing system. It is in good condition and wonderful working order, just like when it was manufactured. All its parts and components are original from those times, being part of a charming typewriter full of aesthetical interest and history. The keyboard is composed of round black pieces with white symbols, except for a red key. All the keys are framed by a nickel ring that embellishes and reinforces them. The brand Continental was applied to a typewriter design created and marketed by German company Wanderer Fahrradwerke. This company began producing and selling motorcycles and milling machines in 1894. In 1904 they launched their first typewriter under the name Continental Standard, a model that kept on being producing for several decades with only slight changes. The front of the machine can be opened to easily clean the gears. The Continental was the most successful machine in Germany during the first half of the 20th century and was produced in three versions: Standard, Silenta and Klein Continental. This particular typewriter is a solid and reliable as the rest of the machines produced by the firm. Printed in the front side we can see the typewriters name, CONTINENTAL, over a W corresponding to the initial of the companys name. The word CONTINENTAL is also printed on the paper holder, just over the carriage, with the same lettering: yellow capital letters with a slim green line inside. The typewriter is in very good condition, showings only some signs of wear at the front iron bar located under the keyboard. This amazing Continental Standard typewriter will find its place in the most elegant study or living room.
