Impressive Underwood No.5 typewriter, maybe the most famous and sold typewriter of all times. This beautiful machine is in very good condition and works perfectly. Made in the United States in 1917, its black-lacquered finish is the original one and also keeps all its parts.Underwood typewriters started being produced in 1895 under the design created by Franz Wagner. They were named after John Underwood, who took their production. The Underwood was the first fully reliable 4-bank frontstrike typewriter in the market and its design was a success: millions of units were sold and it was imitated by almost every typewriter manufacturer in the world, until in the 1960 the IBM Selectric came out. The Underwood No. 5 is undoubtedly the most popular and successful typewriter of history.This model boasts the golden a blue painted decoration typical of the models made in the early 1900s. The brand name is printed in golden letters just over the carriage, with the logo to its left. We can see it again at the front, under the typebars, and also under the keyboard. The patents for this model are printed in golden lettering at the rear. The keyboard, as stated before, is in German and is made up by the classical round keys with white background and nickel ring.This typewriter is a classic, a historic model that must not be missing in any self-respecting collection.
