Curious and rare Adler typewriter with Cyrillic keyboard, made in Germany probably for the Yugoslavian market. This nice machine was produced in the 1920s and bears serial number 326739. It is an Adler 7 typewriter, the first model launched under Adler market name and that was produced for many years with only slight modifications. This particular typewriter is in very good condition and keeps all its original parts in perfect working order. Its Cyrillic keyboard turns it into a very special item, a collectors piece extremely rare to find.Adler typewriters were produced and commercialized by Adlerwerke A. G. (Frankfurt, Germany). This company was founded in 1896 by the bicycle manufacturer Heinrich Kleyer after obtaining the license from Wellington Parker, the typewriters inventor. Parker had patented the model in 1892 and commercialized it in the USA and Canada under the market name of Wellington. During the first years the German company produced the typewriter under the name of Empire, but later it was definitely changed to Adler. All these machines bear the same decal: an open-winged bird standing on a cycle wheel. It is a homage to the manufacturers origins as a bicycle maker. This model, very well preserved, bears the mentioned decal and the name of the brand printed on the front side, over the keyboard. The keys are circular, with black background and white symbols. They also have the typical nickel ring. At the machines front, just over the keyboard we can see a golden metal plate screwed to the iron frame. This plate has an embossed inscription with the name and address of the original distributor. The address indicates that the shop was located in Belgrade (current capital city of Serbia and then part of Yugoslavia). In essence, this Adler typewriter is not only a vintage decorative item but also a real rarity that deserves a place of honor in any collection.
