Lovely Hispano Olivetti typewriter made in Spain in the 1940s, with beautiful and sober design and in quite good condition. This item is a M40 typewriter, a real classic in the European market. The machine has a solid cast-iron frame with an optimally preserved black-lacquered finish. It has also side and rear openings that lets us see the complex mechanism. This typewriter works wonderfully and can be used to type documents just like the first day of use. This means that we are looking at a very decorative and fully functional piece. The company Olivetti was founded in Ivrea (Italy) in 1908 by Camilo Olivetti as the first typewriter factory. The first model launched by the firm was the M1, introduced in Turins Universal Exposition in 1911. The typewriter was very successful and the company started to grow and expand all over the world. In 1929 Olivetti Spanish division was born: it was the famous Hispano Olivetti, established in Barcelona in 1929. Today Olivetti belongs to Telecom Italia group though it preserves its own identity and name. As for Hispano Olivetti, it disappeared in 1997 as a result of the industrial restructuring. The typewriter we can see in the photographs is a M40, the third model launched by the firm that started being produced in 1930. This particular piece dates from the 1940s. It has the companys name printed in the paper holder and two square stamps with the market name and model at the front. The keyboard is composed of circular keys, with black background and white and ochre symbols. It is a Spanish keyboard that includes the Ñ and looks very well preserved. At the back of the typewriter we can see an inscription in white capital letters reading FABRICADA EN ESPAÑA (made in Spain). This singular Hispano Olivetti typewriter is a real classic in the field of office antiques from the 20th century. It is the right piece to decorate a living room or a professionals study.
