This vintage typewriter, robust and very attractive, is one of the most popular models ever produced. It is a Continental Standar manufactured in Germany in 1941, by the company Wanderer-Werke. The article is in really good condition and the shiny black-enameled finish is quite well preserved, just like the chromed component parts. It also works perfectly and can be used to type clearly any document. Its design is remarkably sober, with enameled iron body and openings at the back and the sides through which we can see the inner mechanism. The Wanderer-Werke was founded in 1885 under a different name: Winklhofer & Jaenicke, the names of the founder partners. In the early years the firm produced bicycles and engineering tools and they even created a two-seat car. The first Continental typewriter was launched in 1904; that year only 24 units were produced. Nevertheless the model was so successful that in 1907 the factory was already manufacturing over 4000 Continental typewriters a year. With small changes, the Continental Standard was on the market until 1949.At the front side, just over the keyboard we can see the manufacturers printed name and logo: WANDERER WERKE SIEGMAR SCHONAU. Over the chariot there is an inscription in smart silver and green capital letters that indicates the models name: CONTINENTAL. The keyboard is composed of circular pieces with nickel-plated ring and black background on which the white letters and symbols stand out.Any lover of collecting vintage typewriter will long to own this striking Continental Standard, a historic design from the 20th century, specially in this excellent conservation state and working conditions.
