This attractive typewriter is an Antique piece made in New York (USA) between 1910 and 1920. The most remarkable feature of this piece is its excellent condition and working order, quite surprising for a typewriter almost one hundred years old. It is a Monarch Visible Nº3 standing on a solid wooden base and with protecting cover made of black-enameled metal sheet. The typewriter works perfectly and can type documents with clear and neat lettering, so it is a decorative and functional article. The Monarch Typewriter Company was founded in 1904 by the Union Typewriter Company, a huge trust that controlled some of the best-known typewriter manufacturers of the time such as Remington, Smith Premier or Densmore. The word visible refers to the kind of keyboard these models mount: it is visible(frontstrike), differently from the invisible (downstrike) keyboard of older typewriters, whose system does not let the user read what he or she is writing. The production of the Monarch Visible ended in 1939 after almost thirty-five continuous years of production, under three different market names: Monarch, Remington and Smith Premier. Our typewriter boasts the classic design with black-enameled cast-iron body in very good condition. Over the carriage we can see the word Monarch printed in golden lettering and with the circular logo of the brand to the left, depicting and antique typewriter and the words MONARCH VISIBLE in red lettering. This logo is also printed in the metal cover. The keyboard is composed of circular keys with white background and black symbols. At the typewriters back we can see the inscription Monarch Made at Ilion. NY. USA. The typewriters base is made of solid oak wood and it has a lock that connects with the one in the cover. It also keeps the original key. With its timeless beauty, this Monarch Visible Nº5 will delight every lover of ancient typewriters.
